Crowns strengthen and improve the shape, size or color of teeth. They can support broken or weak teeth or those with large fillings; provide a smooth, strong, attractively contoured surface for stained, misshapen or otherwise abnormal teeth; and aid in dental implantation.

Bridges are natural-looking tooth replacements which help maintain facial structure, reduce stress on the jaw and fill in the gaps caused by missing teeth. Bridges may be made of porcelain, gold, alloys or a combination of these.

Dental implants provide a stable base for replacement teeth that look, feel and work like natural teeth. With dental implants, a person who has lost teeth regains the ability to eat and smile with confidence. Implants can replace one tooth or several missing teeth.
Dental implants are cylinders made of titanium that are surgically implanted into the jaw. The jaw bone grows around the base of the implant, while the top protrudes through the gums. Once they are secure in the jaw, the posts serve as anchors for tooth replacements such as fixed crowns and bridges and secure removable dentures.

Root canals can prevent tooth decay and loss when the pulp (soft core of the tooth that provides nutrients) is damaged due to bacterial infection in a deep cavity, crack or other problem. Despite its reputation as a painful ordeal, a root canal is actually not very uncomfortable. During the procedure, the damaged pulp is removed, the root canal is cleaned and sealed off, and a crown is bonded to the tooth (sometimes a temporary filling is placed first) to maintain strength.

Invisalign® is the invisible way to straighten teeth without braces. Using advanced 3-D computer imaging technology to project tooth movement, Invisalign® creates a series of clear, custom-made aligners (repositioners) that gradually move your teeth. You wear each aligner for about 2 weeks, moving to the next set, until the goals you agreed upon with your dentist are reached.

Patients with a strong fear of the dentist now have an alternative: conscious sedation. After consultation and treatment planning, your dental visit will be scheduled. Dr. McMunn will give you a small pill to take an hour prior to your dental appointment. Your companion will accompany you to the office. By the time you arrive, you will be drowsy.
When you arrive in our office, you will be escorted into the comfort room, covered with a thick, warm blanket and placed on a monitor to watch your vital signs. After you are comfortable, Dr. McMunn and the experienced clinical team will take care of your dental needs. When you awaken you will have no memory of your dental visit - but you will have a remarkable beautiful and healthy smile!

Extraction is recommended when a tooth is loose from periodontal (gum) disease, when teeth are crowded, when one tooth is preventing another from erupting, or when a tooth is so damaged or decayed that root canal therapy would be ineffective. A local anesthetic is usually all that is needed to eliminate discomfort, although general anesthetic may be used for sensitive patients or children. The procedure itself may require removal of soft or hard tissue, depending on whether the tooth is fully erupted. Bleeding, swelling and other post-procedure discomfort should fade within 24 hours, and full recovery rarely takes more than two weeks.
Because missing teeth can cause health problems ranging from tooth shifting to difficulty chewing, restorative procedures are recommended following extraction. These may take the form of dental implants, bridges or dentures.

Veneers are very thin, tooth-colored shells that are custom-fit and bonded to the front sides of teeth to close gaps, cover stains and discolorations, and correct chipped or misshapen teeth to give you a bright, even, attractive smile. Typically veneers are difficult to stain, making them a very popular solution for many people seeking that perfect smile. Strong and very durable, veneers last from 10 to 15 years, and come in colors that will brighten dark teeth without the worry of them changing color. Veneers are typically done in only two appointments , and can actually strengthen your tooth.

Whitening products brighten teeth that have been stained or darkened by food, tobacco use, age, injury or other causes that cannot be corrected with regular brushing or professional cleaning. There are a variety of in-office and take-home whitening products to reduce or eliminate such stains. In-office whitening, also called chairside whitening, takes place over a series of one-hour appointments at your dentist’s office.
First, your teeth will be examined and cleaned to make sure there are no cavities, loose fillings, gum problems or other issues that may be exacerbated by the whitening process. You and your dentist will make a custom-fit mouthtray for your teeth. Then the whitening gel, a hydrogen peroxide solution, is applied to your teeth in the tray, sometimes after another gel or rubber shield is fit over the gums to protect them. An ultraviolet light may be shone on the teeth to facilitate the process.

You are doubtless aware that back teeth are very noticeable when we talk and especially so when we laugh. Seeing dark, unsightly areas of metal can detract from what otherwise might be a perfect set of teeth. If this is your concern, relax: Now we have available several options to correct this. In the case of small areas of decay or replacement of fillings that are not overly large, directly placed bonded tooth-colored resin fillings can make a tooth look like new.
As back teeth receive a lot of heavy biting forces, large cavities and replacement of large old fillings could require the use of a porcelain ceramic or laboratory-made resin ceramic inlay. While this approach requires two dental visits, the results can dramatically improve the health and attractiveness of back teeth.
